Hello everyone and hello November!

Did I just say that? Yes probably. A good word for you today that will help you today.
Psalm 141:3 “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.”
This scripture isn’t for you if you never blurt out the wrong thing, an unkind comment or mess up with your words. However if you find that if an idea pops into your head and tumbles out your mouth, and you say something that you shouldn’t, then this scripture is for you!
My father DICK MILLS taught me this scripture as a young girl. And my mother told me it would help me when I felt the need to talk too much or say angry words.

“Lord guard my mouth today. Give me a nudge, a stop sign or write in the sky when I have said too much or I’m saying what shouldn’t be said. I want to honor you with my words, my heart and my attitude. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Did I just say that. I have found that we say what we think. That is why we say the things we do.
Thinking it & Saying it.
When you think something, you often will say it. It will come out of your mouth at an unplanned time, or a very well planned moment.
But the good news is we don’t have to say everything we think. That is why this scripture, which is one of my favorites, helps guide the mouth in the right direction.
Guard my mouth game plan
The best way to stop, in mid sentence, from cursing, saying the wrong thing, stop in mid sentence, is to do the following 3 step process. It works every time, if you do it.
- Stop talking
- Look down and away from what or who is making you mad (unless you are driving)
- Say the scripture above. Learn it, know it and say it.
When you do this simple little process, you stop the flow, stop the process and change it. You redirect the disaster that is getting ready to happen.
Most importantly you are bringing God back into the situation rather than bulldozing the situation verbally.
It gives God (who we are living for and honoring with our words and actions) time to interrupt. Interrupt our life and our upset.
We then stop what we are saying, and pause, and either stop talking altogether or say what will be acceptable to God. This is pivotal.
Saying the right words at the right time in the right way.

Psalm 19:14 “ Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”
Let your words speak life into your day, into your people, into tomorrow. What you speak today will have a direct impact on tomorrow and your future.
In fact when you speak with God’s word you completely change the outcome of the situation. God’s Word has power in it.

Every word matters.
Start today, and pray asking God to put a guard over your mouth, a watch over the door of your mouth. It will make all the difference.
To God Be All the Glory.

P.S. My mother Betty Mills had a famous line while I was growing up-she said it often because I got in trouble daily and needed to hear it often.
“Just because you think it does not mean you say it!”
