Nearing the end of this year and getting ready to start the New Year, it is always good to remind yourself that God does have a purpose for you. God’s will is for you to-

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” I Thessalonians 5:16-18
Giving thanks regardless of your circumstances connects you to God who is the giver of life, the hope for the World, and the one we live for.
Seeking God, and having Jesus as your Savior will align your life with God’s will.
Growing up in the home of Dick and Betty Mills my parents, I was able to watch the process of my parents seeking the Lord on a daily basis. Praying.
And they might be in the middle of a conversation with you and then start praying because of something that they suddenly remembered to pray about!

I’ve created a 10 step process that is simple to follow, to help seek God’s Will for your life. I also love to share a few stories of how this works on a daily basis. All of this can be followed by a new believer and a mature believer. While it may not be comprehensive, it is workable.
This is simply based on how I was raised by incredible parents who lived for the Lord but also loved the Lord. Their faith was strong, and they were strong. They didn’t quit or give up during rough seasons, and I took note of the process of how they daily found time for the Lord.

Every morning, with coffee in hand, my parents would sit at our small round table with their Bibles and do their scripture writing, Bible reading, and some type of devotional workbook. Yes my father’s work revolved around the ministry, teaching the Bible, studying the scriptures in different Bible translations, but his life revolved around something more.

That something more was not only living for Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior, but also loving his Savior Jesus Christ. Studying the words of Jesus caused him to have a love for the man. The Son of God. He was drawn in.
Matthew 6:33 “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”

Therein was his focus and daily mindset. Each day started with the one he loved. Jesus. And the ones he loved. My mother, brother and I.
He sought the Lord first, then he and my mother made plans for the day and went about their work. It was simple. It started with God. Studying the Bible and praying. Then came work, meals, school, kids, sports, piano lessons…all mundane things, but yet God was in the center of it all.
As a little girl, when they studied their Bibles, I would get out my coloring books and color alongside my dad as he colored promises and verses in his Bible each day. He said marking the promises of God would help him find them when he was ministering and giving words and scriptures to people. It was part of his ‘seeking God’ process.
I was fascinated that he was coloring in his Bible. I was told repeatedly he was not coloring in his Bible like a child would. And I would pick up his Bible open it to various pages and there would be rectangle boxes colored in red, blue and green. To me he was coloring, but that is another story.
Simple steps he did everyday. A blueprint of systems and processes that aligned his goal with seeking the God.
He lived for Jesus and he filled himself with God’s Words and promises. He often told us there was ‘dynamite’ in the scriptures. Dynamite comes from the word ‘Dunamis’ a Greek word that we get our word dynamite from.
In simple terms it means the power of God that flows through someone and gives them supernatural ability.
My dad always talked in Hebrew, Commentaries and Lexicons with us. Of course that was beyond our comprehension but he patiently explained the meanings of the words he used. His fascination with the Word of God grew into a fascination with what words meant and their origins.
All that to say he explained that he sought the Lord because he was fascinated with seeking the Lord and finding out what his words meant and what the original words were in the promises found in the Bible. My dad would memorize and familiarize himself with those promises.
He learned early on, and this is a gold nugget for you- that seeking God, having Jesus as his Savior, would align his life with God’s will.

Here is a simple 10-step process (with scripture prompts) to help you seek and align with God’s will for your life on a daily basis (Scriptures compiled by Dick Mills and Debbie (Mills) Booth):
- Start Your Day with Prayer: Begin your day by seeking God’s guidance and asking Him to reveal His will for your life. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead and direct your steps.
Ephesians 6;18 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”
Luke 18:1 “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”
Matthew 6:6 “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
2. Daily Scripture Reading: Set aside time each day to read and meditate on God’s Word. The Bible is a valuable source of wisdom and guidance that can illuminate God’s will for your life. Read the scriptures. Also, write the scriptures so that they are in front of you which enables you to familiarize yourself with them.
2 Timothy 3:16. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,”
Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
Psalm 119;130 “The entrance of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.”
3. Obedience: When you read God’s Word and you know He is speaking to you, be obedient to that. Seek to live in obedience to God’s commandments. Obeying His teachings and principles will re-focus and align your life with His will.

John 14:15 Jesus said,“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
4. Listen to the Holy Spirit: Throughout the day, be attentive to the Holy Spirit’s promptings and guidance. The Holy Spirit can provide clarity and direction in making decisions.
1 Corinthians 2:10-12 “These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.”
Romans 8:9 “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”
Ephesians 4:30 “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.“
5. Seek Godly Counsel: Surround yourself with wise and godly individuals who can offer biblical advice and guidance. Seek their input when facing important decisions.

Proverbs 15:22 “Without counsel, plans go awry,
But in the multitude of counselors they are established.”
6. When God speaks and directs, be open to God’s Correction: Be receptive to correction and guidance from the Lord. Sometimes, God may use circumstances or people to steer you towards His will.
*I use my fathers experiences often because his ministry and words changed peoples lives all over the world. Hundreds of thousands of people were touched by his words, his ministry and his prophetic messages to them.
Because of that I am mindful of ‘how’ he sought the Lord. It was intentional.
How he prayed. How he knew when God was correcting him and fine tuning him. My dad was never callous, he learned to lean in to the words of God.

He believed that God had put a call of God on his life but it was his responsibility to be obedient to that call. When God corrected him he knew that it was purposeful. It wasn’t to punish but get him to re-focus or be more intentional with a part of his life.
Whether it was relationships, money, finances, and business, he was all in. He knew that he had to adjust and make things right, when God pressed him to do better, and be obedient in an area.
So the correction he always said was purposeful to get him in the right lane, going the right direction with the right passengers at the right time. To do otherwise, wasted time.
This is another gold nugget for you – He knew God’s hand was on his life, but it was up to him to have integrity and walk in Godly character so that God’s anointing could rest on him, and work through him touching hundreds of thousands of people.
God’s hand is on you. You have people in your world that you can touch and the power of God that rests on you will touch them.

Correction from God has a purpose.
That purpose is to clean up any sloppy areas that need to be fine tuned and then be in the right lane, going the right direction with the right passengers at the right time.
7. Trust in God’s Providence: Trust that God is sovereign, He is leading, guiding and directing you in your life. Lean on His providence and trust that He will purposely cause circumstances for your good.

Proverbs 16:9 “A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.”
Genesis 45: 7,8 “And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 8 So now it was not you who sent me here, but God;”
Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
8. Stay Connected to the Body of Christ: Go to a faith filled Bible believing church, participate in fellowship, and engage in community with other believers. The body of Christ can provide support and accountability in discerning God’s will. Good things can happen at church and you can meet others who are your age, have families, have been through what you have been through. God’s presence is there, and things happen in a service where God’s presence is in it. Don’t lose sight of the purpose of church and that is to build your faith and grow yourself spiritually. That is what matters.
Matthew 16:18 “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.”

Hebrews 10:25 “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Jesus said He is building HIs church. For that reason alone we don’t want to stay away.

9. Continually Seek God’s Presence: Cultivate a personal relationship with God through prayer, worship, and a lifestyle of seeking His presence. The more you draw near to Him, the clearer His guidance will become.
Deuteronomy 4:29 “But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Proverbs 8:17 “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.”
10. Think and Evaluate: At the end of each day, pray, reflect on your actions, decisions, and experiences. Evaluate whether you have aligned yourself with God’s will, and seek His forgiveness and redirection if needed.

At the end of the day I actually jot down a list of things I needed to accomplish, much like the beginning of the day. I check off what was completed and where I need to begin the next day. Some days went a completely different direction so the next day I have to start over with the previous day’s plans and goals.
A great scripture to end the day with
Psalm 92:1,2 “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto Thy name, O Most High, 2 to show forth Thy lovingkindness in the morning, and Thy faithfulness every night,”
Each day we seek God because He promises when we do we will find HIm. That is a good way to live every day. Finding Him will cause you to realize God’s will for your life.

God’s Will for your life, is directional and it also give understanding. What He shows you while you are praying, seeking, reading the Bible and doing your devotions will probably be different from what He is showing others. That is because He has made you uniquely you.
You can never go wrong seeking the Lord.
Questions get answered, direction becomes clearer, and God speaks. That is why it is imperative to seek the Lord.
None of the time is wasted, it all has purpose and meaning.

And it is in the seeking, that the finding becomes found.
This is the perfect time to get your time with the Lord on track. It is like purposely getting in a car, filling it with gas, taking note of which road to take to get where you need to go, and then get there.
Not everyone will go with you. You may have to refuel, change directions, but always heading towards the Lord. He is what we need each day.
To God Be All the Glory
